UK Film and TV Production Scheme

It is the time that many in the industry have been waiting for, the UK government have finally published the long awaited criteria and guidelines for its film and television production £500M restart program.

The government committed to the scheme as part of its emergency Covid insurance fund way back in July, but information has not been forth coming. The purpose of the scheme is to assist the UK production industry that have had to suspend production and cannot insure moving forward. It is also there to assist those who are yet to begin production but can’t due to lack of insurance.  The scheme won’t be able to assist everyone, but is hoped to take the burden off those productions that restart where they have incurred costs due to delays and / or abandonment of production resulting from Coronavirus.

Pact, the UK producers’ body, have been vocal when it comes to their approval of the scheme. CEO of Pact John McVay stated “The majority of the film and TV sector has been unable to return to production due to a lack of Covid insurance cover, so clarity on the Government scheme means that the sector should now be able to get back to what we love most – making TV programmes and films enjoyed by UK audiences and many more millions around the globe”.

We will be keeping up-to-date with current news affecting the industry, watch this space.
