Disney Pixar’s long-awaited release skips the cinema

The younger generations have been on tender hooks eagerly awaiting the release of Disney Pixar’s latest film ‘Soul’ which was originally set to hit the bid screens in November 2020. With the craziness of this year, it comes of little surprise that the film is bypassing the cinema. Over the last few weeks we have heard about major name cinemas closing up and down the country. The public confidence in visiting cinemas is at an all-time low, and so many in the industry would categorise Disney Pixar’s decision to release straight to Disney Plus as the right decision.

Originally set to air on 27th November, Soul will now hit the streaming platform on 25th December meaning the children are likely to want an extra present this Christmas – if you’re not yet a Disney Plus subscriber that is. The streaming service recently faced criticism with the release of the new Mulan due to subscribers having to pay extra to view it. This time it seems that Disney Plus are learning from experience as it has been announced that no further payment will be required to enjoy Soul from the day of release.

Bob Chapek, CEO of the Walt Disney Company, said “We are thrilled to share Pixar’s spectacular and moving ‘Soul’ with audiences direct to Disney+ in December…A new original Pixar film is always a special occasion…’. The film will still be released to movie theatres in certain parts of the world but strictly limited to those areas without the Disney Plus streaming service.

Is this a sign on things to come? It will be interesting to see how other films are released in the coming 12 months.
